Subscribe In the App — Now the Same Price as the Website

Update, 21 August 2026. This post originally explained why subscribing inside the app cost $2/month more than subscribing on our website. That gap is gone. From 23 August 2026 the price is $7.99/month wherever you buy it, and nobody's price goes up. The original reasoning is still below, because we'd rather show our work than quietly edit history — but the numbers in it are the old ones, and they are marked as such.

You can subscribe to bujusjujus without leaving the app. Open it on iPhone or Android, pick monthly or yearly, confirm with your Apple Account or Google Play, and your alerts start the second the purchase clears. No trip to the website, no waiting on an email to sign in.

TL;DR:

  • In-app subscriptions are live on both stores. Buy inside the iPhone or Android app and you're running in about thirty seconds.
  • One price, every door: $7.99/month. Website, App Store, Google Play.
  • Yearly is $47.94 on the website, and within a nickel of it in the stores — see the footnote, because we're not going to pretend it's identical when it isn't.
  • Nobody pays more than before. Existing App Store subscribers drop to the new price automatically at their next renewal. Existing website subscribers keep whatever rate they signed up at.
  • Buy wherever you like. Both routes get you the identical service.

What changed

Apple and Google take 15% of every subscription bought inside an app. We used to pass that through: $9.99/month in the apps, $7.99/month on the website.

We've stopped. We now absorb the commission, so the price is the same whichever door you walk through:

Website App Store Google Play
Monthly $7.99 $7.99 $7.99
Yearly $47.94 $47.90 $47.99

Yes, the yearly numbers differ by a nickel, and no, we didn't do that on purpose. Apple sells from a fixed list of price points and $47.94 isn't one of them — the list steps straight from $47.90 to $47.95, so we took the lower one. Google rewrites any price you enter to end in .99, so $47.94 became $47.99 the moment we saved it. Five cents a year in either direction. We'd rather write that sentence than round it off and hope nobody checks.

The original reasoning, from 13 August

Kept for the record. The prices below are the old ones.

We could have absorbed it and charged $7.99 everywhere. Plenty of services do. We didn't, because absorbing it quietly means the website price eventually rises to cover the apps, and then everyone pays for a convenience only some people use.

What we're not going to tell you: that the in-app price is "the same after fees." It isn't, quite. The $9.99 was set when our website price was $8.99, and at that point the two came out close to even after Apple's cut, Google's cut, and card processing. We've since dropped the website to $7.99 and haven't moved the store prices to match. So right now, an in-app subscription is worth modestly more to us than a website one. That's an honest description of a gap we let drift, not a strategy.

That last paragraph is the reason this post got rewritten rather than deleted. We described the gap as drift, in public, and then it kept drifting. Closing it was the only thing that made the paragraph stop being true.

How to subscribe in the app

  1. Open bujusjujus on iPhone or Android. On the sign-in screen, tap Subscribe.
  2. Pick Monthly or Yearly.
  3. Confirm with your Apple Account or Google Play — Face ID, fingerprint, whatever your phone uses.
  4. You're in. Alerts start immediately.

We still email your sign-in details, because the same account works in the web app on any browser or desktop. One subscription, every device.

Reinstalled the app, or switched phones? Tap Restore purchases — your subscription comes back without paying twice.

Managing and cancelling

This part differs by store, and the difference is not our choice:

  • Google Play — manage or cancel in Play, or from Settings in the app. Deleting your bujusjujus account also cancels the Play subscription, so billing stops with it.
  • Apple — manage or cancel in your Apple Account settings. We can't cancel an Apple subscription for you; Apple doesn't permit it. Deleting your bujusjujus account stops the service but does not stop Apple's billing — turn off auto-renew yourself, or you'll keep paying for an account that no longer exists.

That last line is the one people get burned by, on every app, not just ours. Turn off auto-renew first, then delete.

  • Website — cancel yourself any time from Manage billing in your account settings, or email us. Alerts run to the end of the period you already paid for.

Already subscribed?

You don't need to do anything, and you shouldn't re-subscribe in the app — you'd be paying twice for one account. Just sign in.

If you subscribed through the App Store at the old $9.99, Apple moves you to $7.99 at your next renewal automatically. You don't have to accept anything or tap anything; a price decrease doesn't require your consent, only a price increase does. If you subscribed on the website, you keep the rate you signed up at. No migration, no email asking you to switch, and no price rising for anyone.

The short version

In-app subscriptions exist because "go to a website, pay, wait for an email, come back, sign in" is four steps too many for someone who just wants their phone to buzz when a booster box hits retail price.

They used to cost $2 more a month because Apple and Google take 15%. Now they don't, because we'd rather eat the commission than run two prices for one product and write a blog post every time someone notices.

Ready either way? Start getting alerts — or open the app you already have and tap Subscribe.
